Tshegetso Reabetswe Kungwane, known professionally as The Big Hash, is a South African rapper, singer, and songwriter recognized for blending melodic rap with contemporary R&B influences. Born in 2000 in Pretoria, South Africa, he emerged as one of the notable young voices shaping the country’s internet-driven hip-hop scene.
Hash began experimenting with music as a teenager and initially built an audience through online platforms. His breakthrough arrived at age seventeen with the 2017 project "The Big Hash Theory," which introduced listeners to his emotionally driven songwriting, punchy rap delivery, and melodic hooks. Drawing inspiration from global artists like Drake, Childish Gambino, and Lil Uzi Vert, he created a sound that balanced introspective storytelling with modern trap and R&B elements.
In 2018, he followed with "Life + Times of a Teenage Influence," a project reflecting youthful ambition, personal growth, and the pressures of early fame. His 2019 album, "Young," marked a major career milestone, earning award nominations and helping establish him as one of South Africa’s emerging hip-hop talents. Around this period, he also became the youngest South African musician to serve as a global Adidas ambassador.
Throughout his career, The Big Hash has collaborated with several prominent artists, including Nasty C, DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Cassper Nyovest, Tyla, and Kaash Paige. His music has also appeared in major media placements, including the Netflix series Blood & Water and the FIFA 23 soundtrack.
Operating under his independent imprint DEVO Music Group, he continued expanding his catalog with projects such as "Better Late Than Never" and "Heartbreak Hotel," both of which reached number one on major platforms on the South African R&B charts and earned multiple South African Music Award nominations.
